A few weeks back our church hosted the second annual “Man Conference” in partnership with Mars Hill, Blaze Christian Fellowship, and Trinity at the Marketplace. The talks are up, and if you are a guy you should check them out.

On Saturday, August 6, 350 men gathered at DSC from four churches for encouragement and help from God’s Word in the man’s fight for godliness. Fighting for Godliness, of course, was the theme for this year’s The Man Conference, hosted by Blaze Christian Fellowship, Desert Springs Church, Mars Hill Church, and Trinity at the Marketplace. Our speakers, Michael Kelshaw and Carlos Montoya, preached sermons worth listening to if you are a man and missed the conference.

We are very pleased to announce that, as of 2011, Clarus will serve as a Regional Conference of The Gospel Coalition (TGC). Several developments have lead to this unique partnership. DSC began this yearly conference, now named Clarus, several years ago. Over the years, by God’s grace, we have been privileged to have some first-rate speakers; thus, interest and participation has steadily grown—both in attendance and on the web. In 2010, an Albuquerque Regional Chapter of TGC was formed. Many of these Albuquerque-area pastors were already in fellowship/partnership, and in many cases through connections made at Clarus. After discussions with TGC’s executive leadership, it seemed natural to tie the existing local/regional conference efforts of Clarus into the broader, national movement of TGC.

For those who have attended Clarus in previous years, it will be clear that this partnership will not change much of the feel and aim of the conference. Our hope is that, now as a Regional Conference of TGC, this event will be able to more broadly serve pastors and other interested Christians in the SW (Phoenix, Denver, El Paso, etc.). We are thrilled to have TGC’s support and to be able to help the gospel-centered resourcing and networking efforts of TGC.

Clarus conference attendees are entitled to a discount to TGC’s National Conference in Chicago from April 12 – 14. Instead of $250, the cost for an adult will be $100. For couples, instead of $350, the cost is $150. If you are attending Clarus and plan to attend the TGC’s National Conference, contact the church office for the discount code.

The serpent slyly asked Eve in the Garden, “Did God actually say…?” (Genesis 3:1). Today, as much as ever, God’s people must respond to this satanic pessimism with a hearty confidence in the truth, beauty, and goodness of God’s words to us. The following statement expresses well what we believe about the nature and importance of the Scriptures:

To that end, we plan to devote a full weekend at the end of April to this theme, “Scripture: God Speaks.” Two able, godly scholars, G. K. Beale and Carl Trueman, will join us for Clarus 2011 to help us consider the centrality, authority, and clarity of God’s Word and its place in the Christian life (meditation), in the church (preached), and in marriage.

Indeed, our God has spoken…and we intend to listen and heed!

So we hope you will join us, April 29 – May 1, to ponder and feed upon God’s words, sing His truth, and meet some new friends.

In August Desert Springs, Mars Hill ABQ and Trinity in the Marketplace partnered to bring men together to discuss Biblical Manhood. Dave Bruskas, Campus Pastor of Mars Hill ABQ, taught and there were also 2 Question and Answer panels including Dave, Ryan Kelly, Teaching Pastor at DSC, Michael Kelshaw, Teaching Pastor at Trinity, Tim Bradly, Biblical Counseling Pastor at DSC  and Daniel Schuman who is a Biblical Counselor at Renew Ministries.

Over 300 men attended and the talks and the fruit that has come from this event is still being felt and talked about today.

In partnership with Mars Hill ABQ and Trinity at the Marketplace, this conference is aimed at challenging men to fight for the Biblical model of manhood.

In a day where 60% of church attenders are women, and where the men are caught up with sitting at home playing video games, sacrificing their family for success, obsessed with sports and addicted to pornography, the call is an urgent one.

We have made this conference free for all men who want to attend, because we believe the message is of utmost importance that we do not want any barrier for those who wish to come.

We just wrapped up Clarus ‘10 with Wayne Grudem and Randy Alcorn. The theme was “Between Heaven and Earth” and touched upon various topics such as, suffering, heaven, business, ethics, government, and economics. The audio for the eight different sessions, including two Q&A sessions, is now online (for free).
