What a great, and much-needed, statement of concern, rebuke, exhortation from John Piper! I don’t understand how some Christians have sound theological ideas and yet seem comfortable with watching almost any movies, short of snuff films or pornography. It similarly concerns me that so many younger Christians (teenagers and twentysomethings) dress very similarly to non-Christians, in terms of modesty (or lack thereof). How can we think that God doesn’t care about these areas of our lives? 1950s-era fundamentalists went too far in saying that Christians should never go to movies, dance, drink any alcohol, etc. Now, it seems as if many Christians have gone to the other extreme, using freedom in Christ as a pretext for sin, or simply carelessness and thoughtlessness in certain areas of life… which might be sin, in and of itself… not being careful to apply the Bible to all areas of one’s life. This video made me think about my own life and ways in which I can, and should, be more careful and thoughtful in making certain choices. It’s not a slight matter– it’s about the glory of God!! Thank you, John Piper!
