The T4G Breakdown Part II
Yesterday was a great day our first session was kicked off by Ligon Duncan talking on the importance of Systematic Theology. I feel that his talk, though he probably intended it to be this way, was swayed with too much of attack on biblical theology. Truthfully I didn’t know that there was strife between some systematicians and biblical theologians, but according to my teaching pastor Ryan Kelly there is. They did however clear up Ligon’s talk a bit in the panel discussion stating that there needs to be a healthy balance of both, and that both overlap each other. It was a good reminder for me. I often find myself very consumed with whatever I am reading at the time. For example I am reading Explorations in Systematic Theology and find my self entrenched in the flow of the book so at times I forget the need for biblical theology. I pray that I will continue to study the word and through the process of that know it’s overarching themes.

I am excited for today…. hopefully the talks will be as great as both of the talks last night.

What I got from Ligon is that biblical, systematic, and historical theology should all be brought to bear in expository preaching. In other words, to preach expositionally is to preach theologically.
